SAN FABIAN – If you’re wondering who were in the gallery of the Batasan Pambansa who joined in the hearty applause for President Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address, among them were town and barangay officials of the fourth district, courtesy of Speaker Jose de Venecia.

In the group were barangay chairmen of Mangaldan, Manaoag, San Jacinto, San Fabian and 21 barangay chairmen of Dagupan City led by Liga ng mga Barangay president Eric Muñoz.

Barangay Chairman Samuel Guadiz of Mayombo, Dagupan City said they were provided free accommodations and transport to and from the Batasang Pambansa but denied having been given allowances for the trip.

He squelched rumors that the barangay captains were given hefty pocket money too.

San Fabian Liga ng mga Barangay president Roland Villegas also denied being offered any amount for attending the SONA.

Compared to Dagupan City, the Barangay Captains of San Fabian, Mangaldan, San Jacinto and Manaoag reportedly came in full force.

Villegas felt that the rumor was aimed at discrediting Speaker De Venecia since the trip demonstrated their support for the latter in return for the many projects he initiated in the town. -APE
