No outbreak of amoebiasis in the city

IT was all a baseless rumor.
Dagupan City Health Officer Dr. Leonard Carbonell made this clarification after a rumor spread that some six residents of barangay Tapuac were found to be suffering from it.

Tapuac Barangay Captain Jake Reyes himself was incredulous and said there was not a single report of anyone suffering from amoebiasis in his barangay.

According to Carbonell, amoebiasis is a water-borne disease affecting the bowel to which children are most susceptible to.

Carbonel said a pedemiological team composed of one doctor, one midwife, one sanitary inspector and one assistant sent to investigate and monitor found no basis for the rumor.

Meanwhile, the findings on two persons reported as possible victims of amoebiasis at the Region I Medical Center, are still inconclusive.

The city health officer also announced that ‘Oplan Ligtas Kalusugan’ was already organized to conduct health education regularly in school campuses in coordination with the schools administrators and barangay officials.

The activity supports the ‘Brigada Eskuwela’ for the month of June declaring it as National Dengue Awareness Month.

The ‘Four o’clock Habit’ was also recommended to create cleanliness awareness and prevent being afflicted with diseases caused by the rains.

The city health office is closely monitoring water- born diseases such as cholera, dysentery, diarrhea, amoebiasis  and  the dengue  fever  in schools and barangays. – A.P.E.
