SAN FABIAN – Two weeks before he finally retires as chief of the Philippine National Police, Director-general Arturo Lomibao talked to his fellow Pangasinenses.

“I would like to believe that as your chief PNP, I did my best,” he intoned.

Lomibao, who will retire on July 5, was here to inaugurate the new PNP building.

He told local newsmen that the best legacy that he could have as the organization’s chief is to be known as the one who “restored the dignity of the police service”.

He said it was this vision that made him pursue the construction of new police stations in the country vigorously knowing that policemen will work more efficiently in suitable and presentable environs.

Lomibao was in Pila, Laguna to inaugurate a new police station there prior to his arrival here.

He said there are almost 100 new police stations built under his stewardship and he is targeting to have about 250 new police stations until December.

“If you have a new house, you feel better and you serve better, “Lomibao said but pointed out that no amount of physical upgrading would improve the image of the police if the uniformed men will not perform their duties.

“Without it, the new building will simply be nothing but aesthetic so what’s important is service to the people,” he said.

“I am setting my mind to retire on July 5 so whatever comes after July 5 we can’t tell,” he told local newsmen later.

Lomibao is being rumored to be one of the top contenders to head the National Bureau of Investigation, a post lift unfilled since the death of Director Reynaldo Wycoco.

“I would like to believe that I did my best to raise the morale and welfare of the members of the PNP. I would like to believe that I have upgraded the equipment of the police stations. I would like to believe that I have brought the policemen and women closer to our people,” Lomibao said.

He said he hopes that whoever will succeed him, will continue the programs he started.

He declined to comment on his rumored possible political plans. – EVA
