She was recommended by her school to be one of the original 1,000 honor students from various schools in New York State
to qualify for the scholarship. Finally, 80 were selected and 40 graduated with the medical degree last June 2, 2006.

In her school, Carla did an extensive research on Alzheimers and Prion diseases and stem cells. She is set to do her clerkship/internship at Stony Brooks Medical Center (New York State University Hospital) in Long Island, New York.

Carla hopes to be an internist like her late mother, Dr. Ruby de Guzman-De Venecia, daughter of the late Region 1 Department of Health Director and Mrs. Ignacio de Guzman.

Carla was in Dagupan last Jan. 28, 2006 for the wedding of her father to Dr. Julita Parras where she and her sister Dorothy Ann, a business graduate at Baruc School of Business (City University of New York) in New York City and now working with a media company, acted as bride’s maids.

Their brother Francis Gregory, a former sergeant/ranger of the U.S. Army assigned in Iraq and Kosovo, was a business graduate of St. John’s University in New York and now working with Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company in New York City.

Carla will be honored along with her aunt, 2005 bar topnotcher Atty. Jo Ann de Venecia during the first get-together affair of the De Venecia-Claveria et al. clan at the Judge Jose de Venecia High School in Bolosan, Dagupan City on July 1, 2006.
