Binmaley pupils get free school bags

BINMALEY – Christmas came in June for some 15,000 elementary and high school students of public schools in this town after they were gifted with school bags by the municipal government led by Mayor Simplicio Rosario.

Rosario told the recipients that he, being a product of a public school, feels their financial hardship and recalled how he had to walk several kilometers to reach his school and his parents could hardly afford to give him a new school bag then.

The mayor, with Vice Mayor Jeffrey delos Angeles and municipal councilors Ella Valerio and Armenio Escat Jr. handed over the new school bags to the recipients which contained a notebook, pencil and ballpen.

The recipients were from Binmaley Central School, Binmaley School of Fisheries and Gayaman Elementary and High Schools.

Rosario said that the municipal government spent P100 each for the school supplies distributed to each beneficiary.

The pupils, students, teachers and the parents expressed gratitude to the mayor for the project, considered a first in the town’s history.

Since he became mayor in 2004, the municipal government has also began allocating funds to cover the electricity and water bills which were normally passed on the students.

Rosario also stopped the practice of charging P10 per pupil /student for examination papers and instead also allocated funds for this purpose from the municipal coffers. – EVA
