DAGUPAN CITY – The local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has stepped up its campaign to strictly enforce the Fire Code of the Philippines covering boarding houses, hospitals, schools and private buildings within its jurisdiction.

Newly installed City Fire Marshal Armando Fernandez said that of the 30 boarding houses so far found violating the fire code, only nine had complied with the corrective measures specified by his office.

He said, he has given the owners of the 21 boarding houses 15-60 days depending on the gravity of the deficiencies found in the establishments.

Fernandez said the BFP is determined to enforce the provisions of the law to the letter.

He noted that that only one of the colleges and universities here has so far acquired complete fire fighting facilities. He did not identify the compliant school.

Fernandez said, however, that while the deficiencies found in the other school can easily be corrected, notices had been sent to the concerned educational institutions giving them deadlines to comply with the fire code.

Fernandez assured students, especially those living in dormitories and boarding houses that his office will not tolerate a single violation of the fire code. – APE
