Parents face dilemma over kids’ schooling
SAN CARLOS CITY – Barely a month before schools formally start the school year, majority of parents are now in a quandary over how they can continue to keep their children in school.
Officers and members of various parents and teachers community associations (PTCA) here aired this common dilemma as school opening draws near.
Mrs. Priscilla Rosario, a working mother of two, lamented that she and her husband barely earn enough to sustain her kids’ expenses in school as they cope with higher costs of transportation and food.
The Rosarios are among the millions of subscribers to the country’s pre-need companies that declared bankruptcy and had relied on the educational plans to ensure their children’s education.
She challenged the government to act on the parents’ dilemma and help provide financial relief to their predicament.
She noted that while the government’s scholarship program for elementary and high school students bring relief to some, the government does not offer any program for college education.
Meantime, the Association of Private Schools, Colleges and Universities (APSCU) Metro San Carlos Chapter, headed by Dr. Ma. Lilia P. Juan, predicts that there will be more transferees from out of town schools particularly from Metro Manila and Baguio City in view of economic difficulties.– NCC
