SAN FERNANDO CITY—San Fernando – Workers in the Ilocos region cannot expect any upward adjustment in their wages any time soon.

This regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment cited the law that states that no new wage order can be issued within one year from the last wage order issued.

DOLE Regional Director Guerrero N. Cirilo, concurrent chairman of the   Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, said the 12-month period since the issuance by the wage board of wage order No. 10 has not yet lapsed.

However, he assured that the Board will deliberate on a new wage order based on prevailing economic indicators once the 12-month period expires.

Cirilo explained that wage orders 9 and 10 were issued successively last year by the wage board. These increased the basic pay and cost of living allowance of workers in the region.

Cirilo issued the announcement during the celebration of Labor Day in the region last Monday.

The celebration was spearheaded by DOLE and attached agencies like the RTWPB, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, National Labor Relations Commission, NLRC, and Technical Education Skills Development Authority.
