Bangus Challenge karate games hailed a success

If one were to judge the level of success of The Bangus Challenge – 2006 Luzon Karate Games by the number of participants, then it can be said that it was a huge success.

The championship held on April 24-25, 2006 at the Dagupan City Astrodome, was  participated in by YMCA-Pangasinan -Wado Ryu, St. Robert  Belarmine-Wado Ryu, Wado ryu Karate-do Institute San Carlos City, University of Luzon SKI, Lyceum Northwestern University-SRKO, Divine Word of Urdaneta-Shorinjie, Shotokan Ryu-San Carlos, Shotokan Ryu-San Fernando City, LU, Black Mongoose-San Juan, LU, Arudan_Bangar LU, Shinshin-YMCA Baguio, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, University of Baguio-Shorinjie and Philippine National Police-Camp Crame.

Host YMCA Pangasinan harvested 8golds, 7 silvers, 4 bronzes to capture the overall championships.

But in a gesture of sportsmanship, the host instead waived its title and the overall title was finally awarded to Holy Angels University of Angeles City. The 2nd overall title went to Shin-shin Baguio City and the 3rd overall to Shotokan-San Fernando City, LU.

Among the outstanding Dagupan City players were Mother Goose’s John EnricoVasquez, Jonathan Magbual and Rhys Palaganas; St. Robert Bellarmine’s Roslyn Galang, Matthew Serafica, Genevieve Pabilona, Andrei Ang and Jomar Palangdao;

West Central’s Gerard Martin Tamayo and Gian Tamayo; Lyceum-Special Science student Jayson Ramil Macaalay, University of Luzon’s Jona Reyes and Fidel SalvadorReyes,  RIMC’s Jimko Alcantara, Ednas School’s John Meverick Edralin and Daniel Kurt Vidal; La Sallette’s Arnold Tuy, YMCA’s Carren Lopez and PUI’s Adriel Ang.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez thanked Christine Mae for providing lunch to the judges and referees and Milo for providing free drinks to the participants.
