Alko Distillers set to re-open

MANAOAG – The controversial Alko Distillers located in barangay Baritao here will be back in business in accordance with a compromise agreement to be signed shortly between the corporation and the municipal government.

Councilor Jeremy Rosario said the compromise agreement will be forged due to a complaint filed by the corporation against Mayor Napoleon Sales who issued an executive order for the closure of the distillery.

This was on account of numerous complaints of bad odor emanating from the plant.

Sales issued the executive order based on the recommendation of the Sangguniang Bayan which conducted on-sight inspections and hearings regarding the complaints of affected residents.

Rosario, however, assured residents that there is nothing to be alarmed about because the SB will not recommend the reopening of the plant unless all the necessary anti-pollution devices are installed by it.

Residents complained that as a result of the bad odor emanating from the plant, their children were getting sick.

At the same time, Rosario alerted residents to continue their vigilance by reporting to the municipal authorities any act of the management to reopen the plant without seeking the approval of the SB and the office of the mayor. –  APE
