17-year old rider tops Sual bikefest
PANGASINAN has another potential national champion in the making.
Jayson Duran, a 17-year old, young and talented new pride of cycling crazy town San Manuel, banked on his experiences in his not too successful not too early amateur races, dashed across the finish line, beating his breakaway partner Marvin Tualla in the last 50 meters by a hairline line to grab the “201 Years Sual Foundation Anniversary “cycling event held last May 20.
He bagged the P3,000 top prize while Tualla, 18, of Urdaneta City earned P2,000. The duo clocked the 75 kilometers flat and mountainous treks in one hour 58 minutes and 34 seconds.
Mangaldan son Ariel Flores, who used to dominate this year’s Pangasinan amateur races came in third, one minute 12 seconds behind, good for P1,000.
The event that lured 38 well-known amateur participants from the province was organized by retired U.S. navy chief Gerald Valdez based in San Diego, California, assisted by the Bonzo brothers Modesto and Romeo, the 1976 Tour of Luzon champion and 1983 Marlboro Tour titlist, respectively, in coordination with the municipal government headed by Mayor John Arcinue, Congressman Arthur Celeste and Board Member Alicia Pulido, both of first district.
Mon Nicolas and Eduardo Solis, both from San Manuel, dominated the executive division, with 33 contestants, registering a 1-2 finish. They received P2,000 and P1,500, respectively.
Former Tour veteran Raul de Luna of Malasiqui finished third worth P1,000 and also with trophy.
All survivors in each category received incentive prize from Valdez. – JAG
