Vermi-composting boosted in Pangasinan
URDANETA CITY – Organic farming in the fifth district will soon be a buzzword in the province.
The first of a series of seminars on vermi-composting using earthworms was held at the new city hall in Urdaneta City last April. 21.
The seminars, were initiated by the Pangasinan IPM (Integrated Pest Management) Kasalikasan Federation, Inc. headed by Manuel Cabrera, with the support of Board Member Danilo Uy, president of the Philippine Councilors League of the Philippines, provincial chapters.
Uy is a farmer himself in his own right.
The lecturers included Engr. Leonardo Villanueva of San Jacinto Johnny Lumandas of San Fabian, Virgilio Carbonel of Binalonan, and Eduardo Sibayan of Urdaneta City.
Mel Macaraeg of Alcala assisted in the hands-on aspect of the training.
The next venue of the Vermicomposting seminar is Alcala on May 19 to be attended by farmers from the towns of Bautista and the host town of Alcala.–JAG
