Think about it
Conflicting emotion
By Jun Velasco
DAGUPEÑOS are in a grip of conflicting emotions. Sad because a good man who has cast a giant shadow in education, civic leadership and family rearing has just passed away – Dr. Luis F. Samson, beloved founder of the University of Luzon and the Mother Goose chain of schools.
Our profoundest sympathy and condolence.
While the city was grieving, a most gladdening news arrived like a cyclone, the daughter of former Councilor Tony de Venecia and sister of Councilor Alex de Venecia – now new lawyer Joan de Venecia was in the headlines for topping the recent bar.
A few months back, this column featured her as a future speaker or president of the Philippines (prime minister?) because Uncle Joe is one of her inspirations.
Congrats, Kuya Tony and Ate Norma, and the De Venecia family.
At a time like this, we bow our heads in prayer and thanksgiving for God’s blessings, yes including the passing of Atty. Samson who now deserves eternal rest after having fought the great battle and kept the faith in educating the youth and won with flying colors. Kuya Sammy has passed the torch. President Macky of UL and President Gloria of Mother Goose should now pick the challenge. With Atchi Auring, Councilor Chito and Eddie Cuison on the saddle, the institutions he has left will thrive and live on.

It is ironic that the Lyceum Northwestern University whose president Gonzalo Duque lawyered for the University of Luzon at its darkest moment when it was being phased out by the Commission of Higher Education, is now CHEd’s vilest target, closing its college of nursing.
At a press conference Thursday, Gons who was still basking in the afterglow of his successful hosting of the national PRISSA games, was fuming mad why the CHEd refuses to pick up a lesson or two in dealing with colleges and universities.
His critique that the Board of Nursing has been phrasing the wrong questions given during board examinations should be looked into without delay. So, what would you expect from examinees who prepared for the board?

Look who we bumped into lately? The inimitable Oscar Orbos who is lately being dangled (anew) the Pangasinan governorship. Now on the forefront of a resign-Glora campaign, Oca knows how it is to be in the opposition in Pangasinan politics, but the guy has not lost his political charisma. One political tidbit he noted was the appearance of Rachel Arenas as a congressional wannabe. She, the Arena headliner, faces an equal, Ronnie Poe’s daughter Grace who might bite a juicy proposal to gun for congress in Gener Tulagan’s district.
Pangasinan politics is getting interesting, but lawyer Raul Lambino, Sigaw ng Bayan’s national chief, is betting his balls there will be no elections.Killjoy!
