Pangasinan cyclists to join L.U. mountain bikefest

SOME of Pangasinan’s prominent cyclists are ready to swap their sleek racing bikes for the bulky mountain bikes lead when they join a mountain bike race in Bauang, La Union on April 27.

The riders to be led by the strong Jazy Sportswear – sponsored Pitaki Boyz team will see action in the off-road annual race dubbed this year as “Bikebakan Sa Bauang 2006”, one of the highlights of the celebration of the town’s grand fiesta scheduled April 23-30.

The eight-day “Balik Bauang Summer Festival 2006” is being organized by the municipal government of Bauang under the auspices of sports buff   Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III.

Unlike in the previous years, team competition will be part of the year’s affair with a minimum of six and maximum of eight riders to compose a team. A registration fee of P1, 500 per squad will be required.

Five winning teams will   receive cash prizes and trophies with the champion pocketing the P10, 000 as top prize. First runner-up earns P8, 000 while second runner-up is worth P6, 000.

Third and fourth runners-up will be awarded P4, 000 and P2, 000, respectively.

Participants in the individual categories such as the executive, veterans, sports, beginners, youth and BMX have   an entry fee of P200 each, with the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up in each division to receive P2,000, P1,000 and P750, respectively, and also with trophies.

According to the race coordinator Oliver Agcaoili, a participant will be given free “Bikebakan” t-shirt, free packed lunch and a certificate of completion for survivors.–JAG
