THE most wanted man in Pangasinan was arrested Monday by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Dagupan City at his hideout in sitio Cabuan, barangay Tamayo, San Carlos City.

The suspect, Rodel de Guzman, alias “Itiw” and “Edwin” was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Hermogenes Fernandez of San Carlos City.

De Guzman was injured in the head the night before when he figured in a scuffle with residents of barangay Tamayo, at which incident the residents were able to identify the wanted man.

Lawyer Dave Alunan, executive officer of the NBI in Dagupan City, said it was the residents of the area who reported de Guzman’s presence in their vicinities.

De Guzman was identified as co-leader of a group of hired killers in Pangasinan that called themselves as “Young Guns” believed responsible for a number of suspected contract killings in Pangasinan and Dagupan City.

He was among the eight members of the gang who were tagged as responsible for the slaying of Leonides Bulatao, a barangay captain of Malasiqui, who was shot and killed near the municipal hall of that town.

Alunan said de Guzman’s co-leader, Willy Mendoza, alias “Samal”, is now behind bars after he voluntarily surrendered to the court last year.

Four other members of the gang were also earlier arrested separately by NBI agents. They are DexterDescallar, Menard Ferrer, Rogelio Viray and Pangal de Guzman, a bother of   Rodel.

Two others are at-large. They are Christian Sapiera and Bernardo Palisoc, alias “Nognog”.

Alunan said that the group of De Guzman and Mendoza had links with members of guns- for-hire also arrested by the NBI in connection with the slaying of Dr. Cerdan Lopez of San Carlos City in September last year.

He said it is possible that more crimes perpetrated in Dagupan City and Pangasinan would be solved now that most members of the “Young Guns” are now behind bars.
