Mayor, dads at war

LAOAC – The war between members of the municipal council and the municipal mayor here may have begun more than a year before the 2007 election.

It reportedly started when Mayor Gregorio Tabayoyong was poised to stop the regular “development fund” (a.k.a “pork barrel”) of members of the municipal council, including that of the vice mayor.

Councilor Patricio Rebugio described the move as plain harassment against the council in retaliation for his filing an administrative case against the mayor before the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The filing of the case stemmed from Tabayoyong’s controversial executive order increasing municipal taxes without any ordinance enacted by the Sangguniang Bayan.

Rebogio said the mayor’s plan to stop the releases from the regular development fund was a political move to prevent them from providing any assistance to their constituents in their respective districts.

He said that if Tabayoyong makes good this threat and stop their development fund, he will file more cases against the mayor.– APE
