Serial bomber strikes anew
The serial bomber in Dagupan who had victimized a number of garbage collectors and scavengers last year struck again last Tuesday.
The latest victim was Jaime Brillo III, a Grade II pupil who suffered shrapnel wounds when an improvised explosive installed by the still unidentified bomber exploded in a garbage bin on M.H. Del Pilar in front of the former Patranco terminal.
Doctors said he is now out of danger although his left arm and hand were badly injured.
Investigators said the explosion occurred when the boy opened an empty plastic container for mineral water, which was neatly tied to a straw.
Recovered from the scene of the explosion were debris that included flashlight batteries, pieces of tiny broken glasses and others.
SPO1 Pedro Urbano said the explosive device that hurt Brillo was similar to the previous explosive devices that exploded in many parts of the city in the past, the perpetrator of which is yet to be identified.
This fanned speculations that the suspect who installed the explosive device and the others that had exploded in the past, hurting many garbage collectors and scavengers, was one and the same.
The police have recorded 11 such other cases in the past. – AQL
