PRISAA honors medalists
TWENTY-nine medalists in the recent Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) in Pangasinan were honored during Recognition Friday sponsored by PRISAA Region 1 headed by Dr. Gonzalo Duque, also president of Lyceum-Northwestern University.
Duque handed medals to the athletes during a ceremony at the LNU Multi-Purpose Hall, where he expressed his admiration for the performance of Region 1 in the recent PRISAA National Games held Feb. 6 to 12 in Pangasinan.
Region I placed fifth in the overall standing, the highest ever it attained since joining the PRISAA, and the region was declared champion in athletics.
The highest accolade was received by Rochelle Corpuz of the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation who won five golds in separate track events, namely in long jump, classical relay, 4 x 100 relay, triple jump and 4 x 200 meter relay.
Sharing the limelight was Romy de Guzman of the University of Luzon who had four golds, namely in 800 meter run, 4 x 100, 200, 300 and 400 meter relay, 4 x 800 meter relay and 4 x 100 meter relay.
Russel Camero Lisa Casana, Analyn Muyano, Gabby Buenaflor, all of University of Luzon, won two golds each; while Bryan Aquinde and Aldrin Sendico had two golds each.
Aracely Cabacungan of LNU, Jesus Castro and Carl Segundo of VMUF had one gold each.
Gold medals were also bagged by Jeffrey Clata of the University of Pangasinan in Taekwondo’s finweight and Leizl Enriquez of VMUF in middle-heavyweight, also in Taekwondo.
Duque also announced that the PRISAA national board has finally approved his proposal allowing foreign students enrolled in private schools to participate in future PRISAA national games.
He said this means that in the case of LNU, the Sudanese, Nigerian and Korean students in the school can now be assembled to play in PRISAA games to represent their school. – LVM
