Petition vs. Muñoz now with Liga national office

FINALLY, the petition filed by twenty seven barangay chairmen seeking the ouster of Councilor Erik Muñoz was submitted to the national president of the Liga ng Mga Barangay for action.

Barangay Captain Guillermo Vallejos of Poblacion Oeste told THE PUNCH that national league president James Marty Lim is expected to act on it after 15 days.

Vallejos said they have enough numbers in their fight for the ouster of Muñoz who, he said, already served as president of the Liga ng mga Barangay chapter and ex-officio city councilor for four years.

Four barangay chairmen did not sign the petition.

In the petition-letter furnished THE PUNCH, the barangay captains appealed to Lim to conduct an immediate reorganization of the Liga ng mga Barangay, Dagupan City chapter as they accused Muñoz of failing to perform his duties as president.

Officers of the Liga manifested their disappointment over the performance of Muñoz by tendering their resignation en masse effective February 22 this year.

“There is a need to elect a new set of officers that shall manage the affairs of the Liga,” Vallejos said, pointing out that Muñoz had been remiss in his official duties and responsibilities.

Muñoz is a habitual absentee in regular and special sessions of the city council of which he is an ex-officio member as shown by his attendance records, Vallejos pointed out.

The petitioners blamed the non-passage of measures benefiting barangays on his unexplained and frequent absences.

Vallejos admitted that if given the mandate by his fellow barangay captains, he is prepared to replace Muñoz.

Barangay captains said they have completely lost their trust and confidence in Muñoz    because the latter failed to redeem himself even after the local Liga had given him a number of opportunities to make up.

According to Vallejos, their resignation letters have been sent to Muñoz to impress upon him that they are serious in unseating him.

Muñoz could not be reached for comment at presstime.

Vallejos said they also furnished the SP and the Department of Interior and Local Government copies of their petition.

Meanwhile, Vallejos vehemently denied speculations that Mayor Benjamin Lim has endorsed him to replace Muñoz.

Walang kinalaman si Mayor dito. Depende pa rin sa mga kapitan kung gusto nila akong maging susunod na pangulo,” said Vallejos. – AQL
