Orbos defends globalization
DOES the Philippines have a chance to survive globalization?
Former Gov. Oscar Orbos said globalization can be viewed a threat and a challenge but said the situation presents opportunities that could propel the Philippine economy to greater heights.
Globalization, he said, will compel Philippines’ local producers to improve their products to make them competitive abroad.
Speaking before a business convention by the Evangelical Business People and Enterprises for Social Transformation (EBEST) at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome, Orbos said that in globalization, the businessmen’s opportunities are no longer limited to domestic markets and suppliers but now include overseas.
The theme of the convention was “Philippine Economic Challenges and the Potential Impact of Globalization”.
“The most important landscape that would come into play when we talk of globalization is that the environment by which one interacts is global, which means that it is without borders”, he said.
Those buying our goods in globalization are no longer from here but from Alaska, America, Europe and other parts of the world, Orbos pointed out.
He said even workers, entrepreneurs and capitalists in a globalized environment are no longer simply from the local community but from other countries.
However, the former Pangasinan governor and executive secretary cautioned businessmen from making shortcuts just to survive the competition in globalization. – LM
