LINGAYEN – The P1,000 additional allowance given to state workers will not be enjoyed by employees of local government units.

This was clarified by Provincial Treasurer Ramon Crisostomo in the face of numerous inquiries from employees, asking whether they are also entitled to similar benefit.

He said it can only be granted when the LGU has the capacity to grant the benefit. Crisostomo explained that the provincial government employees are already receiving the maximum amount in allowances due them.

He said that an added P1,000 allowance will result in a big financial burden to the provincial government, assuming that funding for such and expense can be found.

He added that small municipalities cannot afford paying additional allowances to their employees since salary increases of their employees are dependent on the classification of the town and their collection of revenues.

Crisostomo pointed out that only a law approved by Congress can authorize the payment of P1,000 additional allowance   to LGU workers.- APE
