BAYAMBANG – After the rat infestation in Manaoag, now comes a mysterious “disease” that has affected the onion harvest in Bayambang.

This year’s harvest reportedly decreased by 30 per cent owing to a mysterious “disease” that affected most onion farms here.

Mayor Leocadio de Vera said farmers came to him requesting for financial help because their onion harvest this year declined on account of the mysterious infection.

At the same time, they asked the mayor to call in experts from the Department of Agriculture to do something about the mysterious disease and prevent it from recurring in next year’s onion planting season.

Local farm technicians who conducted an earlier inspection and analysis of the infected onion farms failed to identify the source and the cause of the “disease”.

The mayor assured the farmers that he would call the national government agencies to handle the   situation.
