New tricycle fare hiked in Dagupan
TRICYCLE passengers in Dagupan City will be paying a minimum P7 fare, up from P5 soon as the city council passes the ordinance providing for the adjusted fare for the three-wheeled commuter vehicle.
The proposed increase was discussed during a public hearing Tuesday presided over by Councilor Vlad Mata.
Under the present ordinance, the minimum fare for tricycles-for-hire is P5 minimum, plus P2 per every kilometer in excess of 4.0 kilometer distance.
The proposal call s for P7 minimum fare is P7, plus P2 per kilometer in excess of 4.0 kilometer distance.
The new rate is being proposed by officers and members of the Dagupan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association.
They said the increase is being sought to enable the operators and drivers to cope with the escalation in prices of oil, spare parts and maintenance costs.
Public Order and Safety Office chief Robert Erfe Mejia said as soon as the ordinance is approved, a new fare matrix will be issued to tricycles which be posted inside the tricycle.
Under the proposed ordinance, students and senior citizens can avail of the discounted fare of P5 per passenger and P2 per every kilometer thereafter as provided for in Republic Act No. 7432.
The midnight fare from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. will be pegged at a minimum P9 per passenger. The “special fare” will be P28 and P1 for every succeeding kilometer.
