More jobs in province assured

Lingayen – Governor Victor Agbayani announced last week that more job generating projects will be undertaken by the province to provide employment opportunities for jobless folk, particularly the young people.

Agbayani said he is taking steps to insure continuity of development thrusts to serve the needs of the grassroots in terms of job and income generation, livelihood opportunities, small and medium enterprises development, infrastructure projects, agricultural production, health and nutrition, population management, human resources development, education and other basic services.

Alex Ferrer, head of the Provincial Employment and Service Office (PESO), said that aside from the expansion of the livelihood assistance program, Gov. Agbayani is enlisting the support of the private sector in providing employment opportunities.

He said that through the various jobs fairs launched by the governor in coordination with various recruitment firms and business companies, some 715 job seekers found gainful employment last year. Out of this figure, some 145 individuals got overseas jobs.

Also, about 570 applicants found employment in local companies at special economic zones.

The PESO chief added that some 3,556 tertiary and secondary students had participated in career guidance and employment seminars jointly conducted by PESO and DOLE.

Ferrer further stressed that “Pangasinan PESO is the only PESO in Region 1 that IS accredited by the Philippine Psychological Corporation and   DOLE to administer written tests to job applicants, and about 18 job seekers had already taken the tests.” 
 

“Last year, Gov. Agbayani launched the Pangasinan OFW Center to provide overseas workers from the province, access to OFW programs and services in which 185 OFW and   OFW dependents were already served,” he said.
