The unheralded Region 1 quintet established its history in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Games by scoring for the first time a stunning five consecutive wins with one defeat to take one of four slots for the semifinals. A victory for them at the People’s Astrodome (as of this writing, Friday) will push them to battle for the gold in the annual PRISAA cagefest.

The obedient boys of head coach Angel Gumarang, displayed a stupendous cohesiveness and almost impeccable play in their first game, clobbering Region 10, 89-61 and plastering CARAGA region, 90-65 on their first two assignments.

Their two figures trend of margin continues as they pummeled gold medal favorite Region 11 on their third match, 79-69, dumping neighbor Region 2, 65-53, on their fourth chore and routing Region 5, 64-39, before yielding a ‘no bearing match’ to title favorite NCR, 77-72, last Thursday. All of their games were held at the open court of the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen town.

NCR topped the A division with six triumphs with no loss, while Region 1 landed second to catapult them for the semis.

Calabarzon ruled the B division and to face all-Pangasinense Region 1 squad in the cross-over and knockout format, while NCR clashes with Region 6. The semi and final matches (Friday and Saturday) will be staged at the Peoples Astrodome starting at 2:00 p.m. The winners in the semis fight for the gold while the losers dispute for the bronze.

“I told our boys to do their utmost best because this is our turf so the partisan crowd, our co-Pangasinenses will be pleased. Obviously they did, showed their strong intensity up to the end and I’m very happy for that,” said Gumarang
