The Dagupan City Health Office was recently approved by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation as an accredited Directly Observe Short Course Treatment (DOTS) Clinic in Region I to implement the Tuberculosis Outpatient Benefit Package.

According to City Health Officer Dr. Leo Carbonell, all PhilHealth members can avail of the TB benefit package for free at the City Health Office which include medicines, laboratory examinations, follow up treatments plus an amount of P4,000 which will be shouldered by PhilHealth and the Department of Health.

“This is a strategy recommended by the World Health Organizations and the Department of Health because tuberculosis is one of the leading cause of mortality” Carbonell said.

“This is good because we can treat our TB patients continuously for like 6 to 8 months,” he added.

Other DOTS accredited clinics in Region include Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital, Dingras District Hospital and RHU Solsona Hospital.
