The efforts of the city government for disaster preparedness have been intensified as the city starts the implementation of the Program for Hydro-Meteorological Risk Mitigation in Secondary Cities in Asia (PROMISE) this February. 

 

PROMISE, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development, is managed by the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) in coordination with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). 

 

USAID will give $100,000 to fund the project, which will be implemented in two years. 

 

Fe Castro Andaya, managing director of CDP, said PROMISE will contribute for a safer Dagupan City as the ADPC proposes to increase adoption of private and public sector mechanisms for community preparedness and mitigation of hydro-meteorological disaster risk in urban areas, which will measurably alleviate human suffering, prevent loss of life, and reduce the potential for physical and economic change.
