Pangasinan, Dagupan repair facilities
FOR PRISAA NAT’L GAMES
All is set for the PRISAA games.
Notably, the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen as well as the Olympic-size swimming pool and the Astrodome in Dagupan City have been renovated in time for the national games of the Private Schools Athletic Association starting February 6 to 12.
Dr. Gonzalo Duque, president of the national PRISAA and of host Region I PRISAA, said that were it nor for the national games, the repair of these major sports facilities in Pangasinan would not have been achieved.
Gov. Victor Agbayani has directed the repair of the NRSCC being the main venue of the PRISAA national games.
Mayor Benjamin Lim also restored the mothballed Olympic-size swimming pool in the city, the only one of its kind in Northern Luzon, and also repaired the Dagupan Astrodome.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo formally opens the meet tomorrow, Feb. 6 1:00 a.m. which will be preceded by a parade of athletes numbering 4,500 from the 16 regions throughout the country.
The athletes will compete in badminton, baseball, basketball, table tennis, sepak takraw, volleyball, swimming, taekwondo and lawn tennis chess and other events.
All the games will be played at the NRSCC, except for swimming and taekwondo which will take place in Dagupan City and lawn tennis in Binmaley.
The eliminations for basketball will be held at the plaza in Alaminos City and Rosales while the finals will be held at the Dagupan City Astrodome.
A top feature of the PRISAA games will be the ‘Kalutan ed Dagupan’ to be hosted by Mayor Lim at the Dagupan City plaza where each athlete will charcoal-cook one milkfish, one hotdog and one barbecue.
Invited to perform during the ‘Kalutan ed Dagupan’ are Gary Valenciano and Mocha Uson, the singing daughter of the late Judge Oscar Uson and Dr. Ester Uson of the Region One Medical Center whose appearances were guaranteed by Dr. James Dy of the Philippine-Chinese Charitable Institution.
Duque called on all Pangasinenses to be good hosts to the visiting athletes including their coaches’ inorder to show to them that once united “we can manage to handle such a big sporting event”.
This is the first time in the history of the PRISAA that the national games are held in Pangasinan.
‘Kalutan ed Dagupan’
Officials, athletes and muses joining the PRISAA National Games will have a chance to savor the tastiest bangus in the world and experience the “Kalutan ed Dagupan,” the first and only Guinness record holder for longest barbecue in the country on February 8 at the City Plaza.
Dagupan City led by Mayor Benjamin Lim, Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez and the PRISAA National Games Executive Committee chairman Dr. Gonzalo Duque plays host to over 4,000 PRISAA delegates coming from allover the country during the PRISAA-Dagupan Night.
The local officials will be joined by Immigration Commissioner Al Fernandez, PRISAA National Chairman Emmanuel Angeles and celebrity Gary Valenciano to a lighting ceremony of the first grill of the simulated longest barbecue at the City Plaza.
“We want to share the Guinness Record breaking event to our fellow Filipinos because the victory of Dagupan City is a victory of the whole country,” Mayor Lim said.
The Kalutan ed Dagupan of Dagupan city is recognized by the Guinness World Records as posted in the latest website of the London-based recorder of the best feats of the human race.
