Ramos still bullish on RP

Former President Fidel V. Ramos  is not giving up on the Philippines.

He said this in his speech during a luncheon meeting hosted by Mayor Benjamin Lim at the Star Plaza Hotel, attended by various sectors of the society in Dagupan City and Pangasinan.

Fresh from his meeting with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the latter’s residence in Makati, the other night, Mr. Ramos refused to openly criticize the President or her administration.

He ignored calls from his ally, Mayor Lim, to speak out on the real score of the country today and what he intends to do to save the nation.

Ramos emphasized there is still hope for the Philippines as he called on the Filipinos not to panic in the face of the economic hardships they are encountering today.

Ramos said he is a natural optimist and believes that the Philippines can still bounce back from the crisis as it did in other most difficult crisis it suffered in history.

He recalled that Dagupan suffered even more when it went through the July 16, 1990 earthquake that devastated its downtown area but it rose to become one of the most prosperous cities in the country today.

Then there was the Second World War where two invading armies marched and fought each other not only in Pangasinan but throughout the country.

“That is why, looking at the whole country as a whole, I am not that pessimistic because we still have assets, like being beautiful, talented, hardworking and other important facets of life,” he said.

He added that the Philippines is probably the most endowed, God-blessed country in the world in terms of nature, seas, green fields and even fish as he called on the people to maintain their dignity of labor.

He reminded the Pangasinenses that Pangasinan and Dagupan City are strategically located being nearest to the biggest markets of the world, like China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the western rim of  North Africa, like southwest Canada, western United States and the rest.
