Lingayen bids for cityhood
LINGAYEN– Watch out for the creation of the fifth city in Pangasinan possibly this year.
The Sangguniang Bayan is set to file a resolution expressing the town officials” intent for the cityhood status, the first step towards cityhood.
According to Mayor Ernesto Castañeda Jr., after the bills passage it will be forwarded to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for endorsement.
He said he is confident that it will generate strong support in Congress to be led by second district Rep. Amado Espino Jr.
Espino, who is already reportedly set to file the bill in Congress, said he is hopeful that this town will soon become the fifth city of Pangasinan, next to Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos.
Even House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. has expressed his support for this move when he was invited as the crowning guest during the town’s fiesta celebration early this month.
“I am very confident we will meet the requirements both in income, population and or land area,” Castañeda, now on his fourth term as mayor, said.
He said this first class town, known also as the Educational Center and Tourists’ Haven with its beautiful and historic Lingayen beach, has an estimated more than 106,000 nighttime population.–EVA
