Establishments told to hire ‘sekyus’

LINGAYEN–Policemen are not security guards.
This was emphasized by Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt Alan Purisima who said it is wrong for establishments to just rely on the policemen to guard their establishments.
He made this statement in the face of the robbery committed by supposed members of acetylene gang who broke inside a pawnshop in Dagupan City, bore a hole in the vault with the use of acetylene torch and carted away P1.6 million jewelry and cash.
“The police are securing the whole community,”
Purisima emphasized this as he placed the responsibility of securing their own premises squarely on the banks, pawnshops and other establishments.
A report showed that most banks, pawnshops and other establishments have dismissed their guards at night in order to cut on their operational expenses.
He said it is the responsibility of establishments to undertake certain specific measures to secure their premises, citing the robbery at the crystalline Jewel Pawnshop on Perez Boulevard in Dagupan.
“There are many ways to skin a cat, as they say. So if we know the weak points in our establishments, we should do something and not just wait for incidents to happen,” he said.
As to members of the acetylene gang resuming their operations in Pangasinan, Purisima said the police already identified some of their members and are actually hunting them down.
He called on the people to help the policemen, like filing cases against the suspects so that warrants of arrest can be issued against the latter. He said the warrants will serve as legal basis for the police to run after the culprits.
