JdV: Multiple probe on illegal wealth to stir reforms in AFP

By November 2, 2004News

The congressional hearings, the subsequent action by the Ombudsman and the court martial proceedings on the allegations of corruption against former Army chief finance officer Maj. Carlos Garcia, who allegedly amassed millions of pesos in assets both here and in the United States, will lead to a wealth of series of reforms in the Armed Forces. This was the impression of House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. who told local newsmen in Dagupan City, that the hearings have already “overwhelmingly established” that Garcia’s new found wealth is unexplained. He made the statement after he directed the congressional hearing to be phased out to enable the Ombudsman and the court martial to proceed. At the same time, the speaker dismissed talks of possible mutiny arising from the probe on Garcia’s ill-gotten wealth.
