Taliño on way out?
PNP Superintendent Noli Taliño, police chief of Dagupan City on the way out?
This question came up after Talino has failed to comply with the directive of Police Regional Director Claudio Cabreros to solve the series of bank robberies and other crimes perpetrated in Dagupan City in the past months.
So far, not a single suspect as been arrested or charged for involvement in the bank robberies.
There are also reports that he is being reassigned somewhere else since he is already deemed overstaying in his post.
Taliño reassumed his post after being exonerated from a case investigated by the National Police Commission on a charge that he was remiss in his duty of solving the problem of jueteng in his own jurisdiction.
Reports indicate that Superintendent Danny Fabia, a native of Mangaldan, is set to take the place of Taliño.
The Bank of Commerce whose service vehicles was held up of P3.5 million along busy Perez Boulevard last August 21 in broad daylight.
Two days later, the Keppel Bank was entered by robbers who carted away P900,000 from two money dispensers of Automated Teller Machines. Not long after, Ang-angco Pawnshop was held up with the culprits taking away some P30,000 in cash and undetermined jewelry.
The People’s Bank in adjacent Binmaley also lost P600,000 cash and checks worth P127,000 from unidentified armed men who held-up their vehicle at Tapuac road enroute to the Philippine Coconut Planters Bank.
Taliño said the armed men who held up the service vehicle of the Bank of Commerce could be remnants of the notorious Kuratong-Baleleng gang who have managed to enter Dagupan City, based on the description provided by a car dealer in Manila from whom the suspects stole an Isuzu Crosswind they used in the heist.
Taliño recommended the revival of the Citizens’ Crime Watch and the ‘Bantay Dagupan” composed of members of the Dagupan City Practical Shooting Association and other concerned citizens so that they can help prevent crimes.
Mayor Benjamin Lim is inclined to retain Tali±o as chief of police because of his performance, especially in the campaign against illegal drugs.
