Dagupan hosts 2,000 OFWs training

LOVE AND CARE PROGRAM FOR A HAPPY OFW

DAGUPAN City Mayor Belen Fernandez celebrated the lives and sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Pangasinan who had to leave their families to seek greener pastures in order to provide for the comfort of their families.

In their honor, the city government launched the “Love and Care for a Happy OFW” program organized by Public Employment Service Office (PESO)/Migrant Desk in coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration on October 8, 2022 at the City Astrodome, attended by some 2,000 OFWs and their dependents.

The event organized focused discussions on processes of work abroad, anti-illegal recruitment, help support for abused or maltreated OFWs, among others.

The Department of Trade and Industry and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority conducted seminars on entrepreneurship and skills training.

Among the resource speakers who shared their expertise were POEA Regional Director Ferdinand Jose Merrera, OWWA Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Gerardo Rimorin, DTI Business Councilor Stephanie Joy De Vera, Senior TESDA Specialist Mirasol Formento and PESO Manager Jocelyn Siapno.
