De Venecia: New R1MC building nears completion

THE construction of the seven-storey building of the Region 1 Medical Center on Arellano St. in Dagupan City is finally nearing completion.

This was reported by Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia when he addressed residents of Barangay Anolid in Mangaldan as the guest of honor and speaker on April 25 in their barangay fiesta.

He said as soon as the seven-storey building is completed, it will become 1,500-capacity from its present 600-bed capacity.

It was his mother Gina, former congresswoman of the Fourth District, with the help  of his father, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., who first sought the expansion of R1MC from 300-bed to 600-bed capacity during her term.

At his own initiative, the younger De Venecia sought the further expansion of R1MC from 600-bed capacity to 1,500-bed capacity and initiated the construction of a seven-storey building with the full backing of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

All the De Venecias worked hard in Congress during their respective incumbencies to provide R1MC bigger budgets in the yearly national appropriations act to enable it to respond well to the growing health needs of the people of Pangasinan.

At 1,500 bed-capacity, R1MC will become the biggest tertiary government hospital in Region 1 and north of Manila, De Venecia said.

He added that completion of the new seven-storey building of R1MC will ensure that all patients confined thereat will have a bed on their own inside wards at any time and for free.

“It will be an injustice to the poor if they are deprived of a bed in a government hospital whenever they seek confinement for treatment of their ailments simply because a hospital is already overcrowded,” De Venecia said. (Leonardo Micua)
