THE office of Rep. Christopher “Toff” de Venecia announced a Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) for workers who lack the skills that are necessary to ensure their domestic or overseas employment.

The free training program launched by Cong. De Venecia and the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), STEP offers courses on construction painting, tile setting and electrical installation and maintenance.

In order to secure a slot in the STEP, the applicant must be 18 to 45 years old and a resident of the Fourth District and must submit biodata with photo, a high school diploma or transcript of records in college or an ALS graduate accreditation and an equivalency test passer certificate.

Since only limited slots are available, confirmation of acceptance will be on first-come, first-served basis.

Applications with requirements should be submitted to the District Office of Cong. De Venecia at the 2nd Floor, Sotto Building on A. B. Fernandez Avenue in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, Cong. De Venecia said children with disabilities can now enjoy equal access to education like normal children when President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law on March 11 Republic Act No. 11650 or an Act Instituting a Policy of Exclusion and Services for Learners with Disabilities In Support of Inclusive Education.

Co-authored by De Venecia in the House of Representatives, the new law mandates the government to establish inclusive learning resources centers in cities and municipalities that will be run by trained professionals and experts.

De Venecia served as chairperson of the Technical Working Group that defined the methodologies and the mechanics of the then proposed law.

De Venecia said the Act will also provide scholarships, pre-service education and in-service training for teachers in child development centers to better hone up their skills and competencies in the area of special education. (Leonardo Micua)
