NEW FORMULA FOR TOURISM

FOURTH District Rep. Christopher de Venecia thanked his colleagues in the House of Representatives for supporting his House Bill No. 1010 or the proposed Philippine Creative Industries Development Act which was already elevated to the Senate during his privilege speech on November 29.

In his speech, he underscored the importance of creative arts, cultural heritage as well as history, which he said, could create tremendous opportunities for tourism thereby fueling local economy, urging the country’s local governments in 81 provinces to fully maximize all these in their own localities for their own advantage.

“When people visit a cultural site in a community, apart from the fees that they are going to pay, they also spend on food, inter-city transportation and other important services that can be found around in that cultural site, creates a multiplier effect as a development model,” said De Venecia, hailed in Congress as champion for the creative industries for sponsoring House Bill No. 10107 or the Proposed Philippine Creative Industries Development Act that was already passed on second reading.

De Venecia also heads the Arts, Culture and Creative Industries Bloc in the 18th  Congress.

“The uniqueness of each province, city and municipality in the Philippines must be discovered, documented and maximized through a strong network of organizations and institutions in the creative industries. They must then be given  an enabling physical environment, provided with opportunities for skills development and  introduced to catalyzers in finance and technology and assisted in the pivot to the online and digital space,” De Venecia echoed.

The congressman cited the Biker’s den in Barangay Immalog Sur in San Fabian town in his Fourth District which he built that has become a good study of how highly communicative collaborations between the government, the infrastructure and environment sectors can positively impact communities.

“Now the Biker’s Den has become the town’s welcome center and pit stop for growing biking community, inviting positive development around it. Restaurants can now be seen beside the structure and more events are being held consistently to build a vibrant community, he added..

De Venecia recently launched Brand Spark, a workshop seminar for graphic artists. With the help of a renowned Manila-based branding and design studio, And a half, 17 graphic artists were trained for five days to improve their skills in their craft which and led to the identification of 10 Small and Medium Enterprises that needed branding boost were identified.

The workshop crated 10 new logos for the different businesses, giving the designers an experience of a life time, while the 10 SMEs they partnered with “had  been given their sexy back.” (Leonardo Micua)
