Some 142 qualified Farmers’ Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in Pangasinan received P315 million worth of farm machinery and post-harvest facilities on December 13.

The machinery and equipment distributed are under the program of Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program by the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

In a short turn-over ceremony held in Sta. Barbara, Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino III expressed his gratitude to the national government in bringing the program in the province and helping the needs of the farmers.

The 238 units of machinery include: four-wheel drive tractor, rice combine harvester, hand tractor, pto driven disc plow/harrow, riding-type transplanter, walk-behind transplanter, precision seeder, rice reaper, recirculating dryer, mobile rice mill, multi-stage rice mill, destoner, and rice thresher.

PHilMech Director III, Ronaldo Sebastian R. Reyes assured the farmers that the machines are brand new, branded and the latest models. He also asked the recipients to become good stewards of the machineries they received.

Governor Espino also urged recipients not to overlook the obtained equipment.

Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center I Director Rogelio C. Evangelista encouraged the farmers to support the RCEF program to become more competitive.

The RCEF Mechanization Program aims to increase the yield and income of farmers by using the right farm mechanization technologies and equipment.

Since the program began in 2019, up to P940 million worth of farm machinery and equipment have been distributed in Pangasinan.

Also present during the event were: Villar Sikap Foundation Regional Focal Person Ruby Ann Matutino, 6th District Representative Tyrone Agabas, Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya and Provincial Assistant Agriculturist Nestor Batalla. /Lynette Iris Paed
