GOVERNOR Amado I. Espino III vowed to continuously support local farmers in Pangasinan through the implementation of various agriculture programs in the province.

“Ang trabaho namin dito ay ilabas ang pondo ng Provincial Government at ibigay sa ating mga kababayan sa buong probinsya ng Pangasinan. Ito ang ibinigay ninyo sa aking trabaho,” Governor Espino said as he led the distribution of Certified Palay Seeds to Pangasinan Farmers on July 9.

A total of 10,000 bags of 20-kilogram Certified Palay Seeds were awarded to more than 250 presidents of various Farmer Cooperatives and Associations of the six districts of Pangasinan held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

More than 5,000 marginalized farmers in the province will benefit from the said program.

A part of the food production support program under the Abig Pangasinan, the distribution of palay seeds aims to increase the harvest and income of local farmers through the provision of high-quality palay seeds.

“Naglalayon itong matulungan ang ating magsasaka. Ang binhi ay isang pangunahing farm input ng ating magsasaka at ang dekalidad na binhi ay magbibigay sa kanila ng karagdagang produksyon ng palay. Kapag mataas ang ani ng ating mga farmers, tataas ang kanilang kita at gaganda ang kanilang kabuhayan,” said Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya.

The distribution of certified palay seeds is also under the Rice and Corn Production Program of the Provincial Government.

The provincial chief executive also mentioned the Department of Agriculture recently turned-over the management of the Rice Processing Complex in Sta. Barbara to the Provincial Government of Pangasinan to assist more local farmers.

The Provincial Government is also set to distribute farm tractors to farmers next week.

Recipients of the certified palay seeds thanked the Provincial Government of Pangasinan and Governor Espino for the said program which will improve their livelihood.

“Malaki po ang tulong ng binhing ibinigay ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan kasi hindi na kami bibili kaya nagpapasalamat kami sa inyo dahil natutulungan ninyo kami,” said Estrilita Dela Cruz, one of the beneficiaries.

Also joining the program were Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Nestor Batalla, Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco, city and municipal agriculturists, and some of the farmer beneficiaries. /PJES
