PANGASINAN Governor Amado I. Espino III vowed to continue serving his constituents amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as he led the Provincial Government team in bringing the Abig Pangasinan Karaban to Barangay Arwas, Bani on May 19.

“Nandito kami, mga kababayan. Ito ang obligasyong ibinigay ninyo sa amin – pagsilbihan hindi lang kayo, kung hindi imaging buong probinsya,” said Governor Espino.

Governor Espino reiterated his call for continuous support, patience, and discipline of Pangasinenses as the fight against the pandemic is not yet over.

“Ang hihilingin ko lang ay tiyaga, disiplina at ang pinaka-importante, inyong mga tagubilin sa inyong mga mahal sa buhay. Malaking tulong na iyon sa amin,” Gov. Espino stated.

The provincial chief executive also commended the Pangasinan frontliners including the barangay officials for their sacrifices.

The Abig Pangasinan is the umbrella program of all existing and new projects of the Provincial Government intended for Pangasinenses who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Programs under the Abig Pangasinan Karaban which were brought by the Provincial Government to Barangay Arwas were: Kabuhayan Palengke Karaban, Karagdagang Pangkabuhayan Kalinisan Karaban, and the distribution of food production support to locals.

Thirty-five local vendors from Bani participated in the Kabuhayan Palengke Karaban. A total of P51,490 worth of products such as meat, fish, and vegetables were bought by the Provincial Government from the local vendors. These products will be served as meals to the patients from the 14 provincial government-run hospitals in Pangasinan

Cash pay-out to the 15 members of different sectors was also distributed through the Karagdagang Pangkabuhayan (Cash-for-Work) program. The P400.00 pay-out was in-exchange for their assistance in the Palengke Karaban.

A total of 91 trays of fruit-tree seedlings, 1,500 pieces of vegetable seedlings, 90 gillnets, 15 water pumps, and 58 knapsack sprayers were distributed to farmer and fisherfolk associations in support of the food production program.

The Kalinisan Karaban collected 310 kilograms of plastic waste materials from the town of Bani. The plastic wastes were bought at P20.00 per kilo and were exchanged by the townsmen for grocery items, school supplies, cellphone load, and other items at the Kalinisan Karaban Mobile store.

“Ito ay basura o plastic lamang na magkakaroon ng halaga. Bukod pa dito, magiging malinis po ang ating barangay at ang ating komunidad,” said Board Member Jerome Vic Espino encouraging the locals to support the program.

Still in-line with the environment protection program, one unit of grass cutter was also granted to Barangay Arwas.

The mobile caravan of the Abig Laman ed Barangay (Mini-Kalusugan) led by the Provincial Health Office also brought free medical health services serving residents of Barangay Arwas and nearby barangays.

Free medical services offered are as follows: medical consultations to 676 individuals, laboratory including blood sugar test, urinalysis, HGB/CT test, blood typing, cholesterol and uric acid test to 224 people, chest x-ray to 45 people, ECG to 55 individuals, at skin disease check-up to 25 people.

The Provincial Health Office also distributed free medicines and vitamins.

Barangay Arwas Barangay Captain Fred Rivera thanked Governor Espino and the Provincial Government of Pangasinan for visiting their barangay.

“Pumunta po sila dito para mabigyan tayong lahat ng biyaya. Meron ditong medical mission, ngayon po ay nagpapasalamat ako kay governor na hindi po tayo nalilimutan dito,” said Barangay Chairman Rivera.

Likewise, Bani Vice Mayor Benjamin Navarro II commended Governor Espino for the program which helped their constituents.

“Inihandog ng ating gobernador ang iba’t ibang serbisyo ng kanyang administrasyon. Inilalapit po niya ang serbisyo para po satin dito sa komunidad. Salamat Governor. Sana po di kayo magsawa na tumulong sa amin dito sa Bani,” said Vice Mayor Navarro.

Beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude towards the program.

“Makakatulong po ito para mapaunlad ang mga produkto ng Pangasinan at para sa mga farmers. Nagpapasalamat po kami kay Gov. Espino dahil may programang ganito,” said Ms. Adelaida Untalan, one of the beneficiaries under the Kabuhayan Palengke Karaban.

Also present during the program were the members of Bani Sangguniang Bayan, Barangay Arwas officials, and some department heads of the Provincial Government of Pangasinan. Mabini Mayor Ariel De Guzman and Agno Mayor Gualberto Sison also visited the Abig Pangasinan Karaban. /Paula Jhea Sison
