To serve and protect
THE Dagupan City Police, under the new leadership of Lt. Colonel Lawrence Keith Calub, had their hands full last week. And they skillfully delivered.
Only a few days after Calub assumed the role of police chief, the Dagupan Police demonstrated remarkable efficiency by solving in less than 24 hours the tragic death of a seven-year-old girl from Asingan town, who was first reported missing the night before, then found at dawn along the Dagupan shoreline.
Following the strong directive of Police Provincial Director Col. Ariel Mercullo for all his men down the line not to rest until the family of the victim gets the justice due them, the Dagupan Police immediately went into action, and the two suspected perpetrators were arrested and are now facing charges.
The Dagupan City Police, in coordination with the Regional CyberCrime Division, was also credited for the early identification of the suspect behind the fake bomb threat at PHINMA University of Pangasinan on August 12 that caused undue alarm and panic not only to the students and faculty members, but also to the entire city of Dagupan.
Adding to their list of recent accomplishments, the Dagupan Police also successfully arrested – in coordination with the Bureau of İmmigration and the PNP intelligence Group – an Indian national who is tagged as an international fugitive.
The police force’s clockwork precision in solving these cases garnered them the highest respect and admiration from the city’s officials and the more than 180,000 Dagupan residents.
Their actions and accomplishments strengthen police credibility – and help bring back faith among those who have long been disillusioned by our law enforcers and stopped believing that they are there to serve and protect.
