Another test of credibility for PBBM
THE decision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ask for the resignation of his cabinet members came on the heels of his seemingly heartfelt wish to reconcile and unite with the Duterte family.
With no positive response from the Duterte family, pundits and netizens see his decision to seek a revamp as a political strategy to move on from his failed reconciliation message.
After all his call for reconciliation was met by calls for him to bring back Mr. Duterte from The Hague and to initiate a move to stop the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, two moves he cannot possibly bring himself to do without further exacerbating his present dilemma.
But what appears to be clear is that the president finally came to terms with the dismal performance of his Alyansa Para Sa Bayan in the midterm elections. Perhaps almost traumatic for him was to hear Duterte chants even before he could finish introducing all his 12 candidates.
Could the call for courtesy resignations, therefore, be a ploy as well to shift the political discussions away from the “kidnapping” of former President Duterte and his subsequent incarceration in the International Criminal Court’s detention cell in The Hague? Or was it a move to convey the message that he is still in control and not the tandem of his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and House Speaker Martin Romualdez? Or was it to make voters forget why his sister Senator-elect Imee Marcos won after opting to move out of his political circle?
So, now comes another test of credibility for the president. (He already failed in the netizens’ challenge to take a hair follicle test to prove that he’s not a drug user.
While he has not named whom to retain or change among his cabinet secretaries to date, netizens have started to zero in on the change of leadership in the House of Representatives. If PBBM is serious about unification, reconciliation and the need to focus on priorities of his administration, they say it must start with unseating Speaker Romualdez.
While this is going on, the wish of Mr. Marcos to reconcile with the Dutertes is already being shelved, even the revamp is not expected to make any dramatic response, especially with the wish of VP Sara to proceed with her impeachment because she is looking forward to a “bloodbath”!
Bring out the popcorn, please!
