Political turmoil in every corner

POLITICAL turmoil has always been the mark of Philippine politics.

So, the recent signature outburst of former president Rody Duterte in the direction of President Bongbong Marcos did not really surprise most everyone.  That it happened between two back-to-back presidents was unprecedented and disconcerting.

It was evidently triggered by illegal drugs issue with both PRRD and PBBM.

The threat of investigation of the EJKs by the International Criminal Court was made to appear in no unmistakable word that it was the Damocles sword hanging over PRRD’s head. The subsequent flip-flopping of the Marcos Jr. administration on the issue, from ‘No’ to ‘Yes’ to ICC investigation, was the final straw.

Then there was the reported video of PBBM snorting cocaine and his alleged drug addiction that went viral to impress upon the 31 million voters that he is an unstable, weak president.

In the wings are three women in the lives of the two men who are helping draw the line further: presidential sister, presidential daughter and presidential wife.

Thanks to social media, the PRRD and PBBM ‘drug war’ has since taken center stage like the entertainment of the year with no care about its impact and consequences to national governance, ultimately to welfare of Filipinos.

Without a doubt, this political ‘drug war’ has begun to polarize followers of both national leaders, a situation that will keep the people’s basic issues with inflation and lack of jobs in the back burner.

Even in a smaller but no less critical issue is Dagupan City. The political opposition continues to sabotage local governance with impunity but the Belen Fernandez administration appears helpless about it. What makes the opposition so emboldened with its plots and scheming to block the city government’s efforts to deliver more services? And what is it that keeps the incumbent administration from fighting back for its constituents?

It’s not about drugs but greed and corruption.

In both situations, the political players are at its other’s throats providing “entertainment” while their captivated audience are left to fend for their welfare and survival.

Leave it to politicians to crate turmoil in every corner.
