TYPHOON “Uwan” (International name: Fong Wou) has caused extensive damage in this town, with the local mango industry suffering the most.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), total agricultural losses were estimated at ₱14 million, largely due to the destruction of mango trees and fruit-bearing crops.

MDRRMO spokesperson Kristine Joy Soriano reported that a significant number of mango trees were either uprooted or severely damaged by the storm’s powerful winds.

“Many of the trees had fruits due for harvest in December, while others had just been treated with pesticides,” Soriano said. “This is a huge setback for our farmers, many of whom were anticipating a good harvest in the coming months. The storm has caused irreversible damage to the crops.”

As of Thursday (November 13), several barangays remain without electricity. Soriano said Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) is conducting safety inspections before restoring power in affected areas.

The worst-hit barangays include Talibaew, Buenlag, San Miguel, Sungkoy, Nagsaing, Malabago, Ambunao, and Dinalaoan, where multiple power lines and poles were toppled. Several transformers also exploded, and some areas experienced electrical sparks from fallen trees.

Local authorities and DECORP appealed for residents’ patience and cooperation as recovery and repair efforts continue. (Ahikam Pasion)
