JOVELLANOS Street has been added to the list of Dagupan streets temporarily closed for the city’s annual baratillo, giving vendors more space during the Christmas season and the Dagupan City Fiesta.

The inclusion was approved under Ordinance No. O-052, series of 2025, passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on November 17 upon the motion of Councilor Marcelino Fernandez, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay. The measure amends Section 2 of Ordinance No. 2356-2025, which originally designated only Zamora and Galvan Streets for the baratillo.

Mayor Belen Fernandez issued a certificate of urgency to address the limited space available for traders, many of whom could not be accommodated in the original sites.

Councilor Fernandez said expanding the baratillo area will help small vendors recover from the economic blow of Typhoon Uwan, while also improving crowd movement and ensuring safer operations in the city center.

The temporary road closure will remain in effect until January 15, 2026. (Leonardo Micua)
