DECORP to increase rates this November due to peso-dollar exchange
THE Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP) announced a slight rise in its electricity generation rate this November, up to ₱0.40 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), largely attributed to the weakening of the Philippine peso against the US dollar.
Atty. Randy Castilan, DECORP’s Chief Operating Officer, explained that this is due to the fluctuations in the foreign exchange rate, particularly because the corporation sources some of its energy supplies from abroad.
For instance, coal-fired power plants, which DECORP relies on for power generation, import coal in US dollars.
Despite the increase, Castilan assured customers that the overall impact on their monthly bills will be minimal, averaging less than ₱10.00 per bill.
He emphasized, however, that DECORP still maintains one of the lowest electricity rates in the province of Pangasinan, more affordable compared to the rates being charged by other power suppliers. (Ahikam Pasion)
