San Fabian market manager says just doing their job

THE San Fabian local government’s Market Division has firmly denied accusations of forcibly ejecting ambulant vendors from the vicinity of the public market, stressing that their commitment is to maintain order and cleanliness in the area.

“We are only doing our job to maintain order and cleanliness in the market,” said Sonny Reyes, the market administrator, adding that the goal is to create a well-organized environment where all vendors can thrive while respecting the rules set for public market operations.

He said their team conducts regular patrols to remind stall owners to properly arrange their merchandise and engage with ambulant vendors to reinforce the designated selling hours, which start at 5:30 p.m.

Legitimate stall owners have complained that they are struggling to make sales due to the increasing number of ambulant vendors encroaching in their designated spaces, many of whom reportedly earn more despite not paying rent.

Reyes denied claims by ambulant vendors who said that market authorities had been forcibly seizing their goods and weighing scales, and evicting them from their selling spots. (Ahikam Pasion)
