Pamana strikes new deep well in Carael

PAMANA, a private company that has a 25-year joint venture agreement with the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD), struck a virtual gold mine when it dug a deep well in Barangay Carael, across the Calmay River, that yields a significant volume of potable water that could last for years.

Glen Gomez, Pamana general manager, said two previous water exploration in Carael undertaken by separate contractors proved futile, but the last one was very successful as a large amount of potable water was found, and the water pressure is high.

Speaking on August 28 before the Sangguniang Panlungsod,  Gomez said the newly dug deep well is still undergoing purification with the use of a generator set, while electric connection with the Dagupan Electric Corporation is still being worked out.

As soon as it becomes operational, it can bring safe potable water to the residents of both Carael and Calmay, initially for eight hours during the day.

The Carael deep well will become the 25th water pumping station of both Pamana and DCWD. Two more pumping stations will be set up next year, one in Barangay Lasip Grande and another in Lucao.

Gomez said a big challenge for Pamana is the Futura Homes, consisting of six to eight high-rise condominium buildings in Lucao, which would need a separate pumping station.

The management of Futura, he said, will provide the lot for the pumping station.

Admitting that the pipelines of DCWD are old and leaking, Gomez said Pamana is taking advantage of the road elevation by the Department Public Works and Highways to install a more modern pipe system, with so far 17 kilometers covered along the construction areas.

Asked by Councilor Michael Fernandez on what happened to the personnel of DCWD when its joint venture agreement with Pamana took effect in 2020, Gomez said 93% were absorbed and the remaining 7%  are still with DCWD in charge of monitoring. (Leonardo Micua)
