HIGHER THAN THE 1.5% NATIONAL RATE

THE inflation rate in Pangasinan increased to 4.1% in August 2025 from 3.3% in July, primarily driven by higher prices for food, housing, and transport, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) provincial office reported last week.

The province’s inflation level was significantly higher than the national rate of 1.5% during the month in review.

PSA Pangasinan Supervising Statistical Specialist Ferdinand Jocutan said food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for 63.1% of the total inflation hike, with prices jumping by 3.7% due mainly to the continuing effects of recent calamities on local agricultural production.

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels made up 24.5% of the rise, while transport contributed 9.9%.

Prices in these categories went up by 5.3% in August from 3.8% in July.

The slowdown in transportation prices, particularly personal transport such as motorcycles and cars, also decreased to -1.5% from -4% during the period in review, indicating rising fuel prices and other transportation-related costs.

On the other hand, some sectors saw a decline in prices, such as furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance, while education services and recreation remained relatively stable. (Ahikam Pasion)
