Quintos Bridge serves as temporary Dagupan market due to flood

THE Quintos Bridge in Dagupan, located along the main thoroughfare A.B. Fernandez Avenue, served as a temporary marketplace when the city’s downtown area became inaccessible to all light vehicles due to prolonged widespread flooding spawned by more than a week of monsoon rains that were intensified by two typhoons.

Mayor Belen Fernandez allowed the use of the bridge as a temporary trading site until the flood completely subsides, noting that vendors need to earn a living while residents have to source food.

Since the Malimgas Public Market became inaccessible due to the flood, some households had to go to the neighboring town of Mangaldan via Bonuan to shop.

Councilor Jose Neto Tamayo expressed support for the temporary solution amid the emergency situation.

In his Facebook posts on Monday, Tamayo said vendors need to keep their livelihoods going.

As of Monday, July 28, about 95% of shops around town were still closed because of the flood. (Leonardo Micua)
